CJSL Introduces The Sideline Project & Parent Pledge Initiative
CJSL is proud to introduce The Sideline Project & Sideline Pledge Initiative across all of our competitions.
This initiative applies to all CJSL parents and spectators — not just those participating in the 4v4 Development League. Every match. Every age group. Every division.
The Sideline Project is a brief 15-minute course developed by Soccer Parenting that focuses on improving sideline behavior in youth sports. Its purpose is simple: to ensure our players compete in an environment that is positive, respectful, and supportive.
A strong sideline culture directly impacts:
Player development and confidence
Referee retention and respect
Coach effectiveness on game day
The overall experience across all CJSL competitions
CJSL believes that how we behave on the sidelines matters just as much as what happens on the field.
“Parents play a critical role in shaping the game-day environment. We expect our sidelines to reflect encouragement, respect for referees, and trust in our coaches. The responsibility belongs to all of us to model the behavior we want our players to learn.”
— Max Watson, CJSL League President
“Club development is not only about coaching education and player pathways — it’s also about parent education. The Sideline Project helps align our families with the standards we expect across CJSL.”
— Ron Restrepo, Director of Club Development
We strongly encourage all parents to complete the course and take the Sideline Pledge.
Parents can access the pledge on the CJSL Parent Resource Page:

Together, we can elevate the experience for every player in our league.
