PLAYERS
Everything CJSL players need in one place.
Players - Welcome to the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League.
CJSL establishes the competitive league environment in which players compete, including league structure, standards of play, matchday expectations, rules, eligibility, and league-supported opportunities. This framework ensures players compete in balanced, age-appropriate environments that support development and progression over time.
Playing in CJSL also comes with responsibility. Players are expected to respect referees, opponents, and teammates, compete with integrity and sportsmanship, take accountability for their behavior on and off the field, and represent their club and the league positively. League standards exist to protect players, referees, and the integrity of competition.
The information below outlines matchday expectations, how the CJSL player pathway works, and the resources and opportunities available to players competing in the league.
Match Day Standards & Expectations
CJSL matchdays are designed to be competitive, organized, and respectful across all age groups and divisions. League standards exist to protect players, referees, and the integrity of competition.

The CJSL Player Pathway
CJSL follows a clear, development-based pathway:

Progression is based on development, readiness, and competitive level. Advancement is earned and never rushed.
CJSL provides the league framework that allows progression. Clubs guide players day-to-day within that framework.

CJSL supports a developmentally appropriate player pathway that aligns with U.S. Soccer and ENYYSA player development principles. Player placement and progression are based on readiness, development, and appropriate competitive environments — not fixed timelines or guarantees.
CJSL provides the league structure that allows progression between levels. Clubs and coaches are responsible for training, evaluation, and day-to-day player development within that framework.
U8–U10 | Foundation Stage
At the U8–U10 ages, the focus is on individual development, enjoyment, and learning the game. League environments at these ages are designed to support long-term player growth rather than short-term results.
- Ball mastery and technical confidence
- Decision-making through play
- Creativity, enjoyment, and love of the game
- Age-appropriate competition and game formats
Movement at these ages prioritizes development and comfort in the game environment. Progression is flexible and focused on learning.
U11+ | Development & Competitive Growth Stage
Beginning at U11 and older, players transition into more structured team play and competitive environments. Development remains the priority, with increasing emphasis on accountability, consistency, and performance standards.
- Team concepts and positional understanding
- Consistency in technical execution
- Game awareness and decision-making under pressure
- Physical, mental, and tactical growth
As players mature, pathways may include higher levels of competition, premier environments, and college-oriented opportunities when appropriate. Advancement is based on readiness and development, not age alone.
Player placement may move up, laterally, or adjust as development, needs, and circumstances change. The goal is always appropriate competition that supports confidence, learning, and long-term involvement in the game.
Rules, Eligibility & Player Conduct
CJSL maintains clear rules and expectations to ensure fair, respectful competition. Players are expected to follow league policies, respect match officials, and compete responsibly.
Misconduct is addressed through league disciplinary procedures to protect players and the integrity of the game.
