ODP Tryouts Are Here. Time for NYC Players to Step Up
For the ambitious youth soccer player in New York City, the Olympic Development Program (ODP) is not just another tryout—it’s the start of a proven pathway to the national stage. And now, that path begins right here in Queens.
The Eastern New York (ENY) South ODP Tryouts are coming to Queens College on Saturday, August 23, 2025, giving NYC-based players the chance to be evaluated for one of the most respected talent identification programs in the country. This is the first round of ODP tryouts for boys born in 2012, 2013, and 2014, and it could be the first step toward representing the U.S. on the national and international level.
This push for NYC representation comes directly on the heels of the CJSL Annual General Meeting in June, where Wayne Fortino, the new head of ENY ODP, spoke to league members about the importance of ODP and how it serves as a pipeline to the U.S. Youth National Teams.
“ODP starts in your own backyard and can take you all the way to international competition,” said Fortino, who brings more than 25 years of experience in youth and collegiate soccer. “If you’re a serious player in New York City, this is your chance to step up and be seen.”

So, what is ODP?
The Olympic Development Program is run by U.S. Youth Soccer and is designed to identify the most talented youth players across the country and guide them through a structured development pathway. It begins with state tryouts like the one in Queens, and moves players through regional tournaments, inter-regional events, and finally to the National ODP Pool where U.S. Soccer scouts identify future players for international play.
Participation in ODP means:
Elite training led by licensed, experienced coaches
Supplemental development that works alongside club soccer
High-level competition against top players from other states and regions
National exposure and opportunities to be scouted for college and national teams
Affordable programming for under $1,000 a year
CJSL is committed to making sure NYC players don’t get left behind.
“We’re proud to support programs like ODP that create real opportunities for players to grow, compete, and get noticed on a national level.” said CJSL President Paul Kontonis. “It’s time for more New York City players to get in the system, with a first step on August 23.”
If you want to take your game to the next level, ODP is the place to prove it.
