Divisions - Level of Play
Super Division
Highest level of competition within CJSL
Designed for top-tier travel teams with strong technical ability, tactical understanding, and consistent competitive results.
Players typically train multiple times per week and may compete in State Cup, Regional League, or similar high-level competitions.
Games are fast-paced, physical, and tactically demanding.
Best suited for teams seeking the strongest weekly competition and a highly competitive environment.
When reviewing registrations for a given season, the league will place teams in the Super Division if they finished 1st or 2nd place at the Division 1 level, and/or have competed in the top division of higher-level competitions.
Appropriate for: Elite teams consistently winning at higher levels
Not recommended for: Developing or newly formed teams
Division 1
High-level competitive play
For strong travel teams that compete consistently and can handle pressure, speed, and physicality.
Players demonstrate solid technical skills and team organization.
Results may vary against Super Division teams but are competitive within this level.
A good fit for teams that narrowly miss Super Division or are transitioning toward it.
Appropriate for: Established travel teams with strong player pools
Not recommended for: Developing or newly formed teams
Note: Borderline teams should consult league staff before registering
Division 2
Competitive, development-focused travel play
For travel teams building consistency, confidence, and roster depth.
Players are developing technical skills, tactical understanding, and team organization.
Matches are competitive without the pace, physicality, and intensity of Super Division or Division 1.
A good fit for teams moving up from lower levels or rebuilding after roster changes.
Appropriate for: Solid travel teams focused on growth and development
Not recommended for: Elite or highly dominant teams
Division 3
Developmental travel level
For travel teams focused on player development, learning game concepts, and gaining league experience.
Players may be newer to travel soccer or transitioning from intramural or recreational programs.
Games emphasize learning, confidence, and enjoyment while remaining competitive.
Results may be inconsistent, which is expected at this level.
Appropriate for: Entry-level travel teams or younger age groups
Not recommended for: Experienced or high-performing teams
Division 4
Introductory competitive league play
For teams at the earliest stage of competitive soccer.
Emphasis on learning rules, positioning, teamwork, and overall game flow.
A supportive environment for new clubs or first-time travel teams.
Appropriate for: New travel teams or developmental programs
Primary goal: Confidence and foundational growth
Important Placement Notes
CJSL expects clubs to register teams honestly and appropriately based on current ability — not past reputation.
